Indirect & Direct Ophthalmoscopy
A direct ophthalmoscope is the smaller hand-held light-saber looking tool that most human physicians use to examine the optic disc in humans. This tool is used in veterinary medicine with sometimes great difficulty. Many of our patients are moving targets and trying to get small glimpses of the eye can be challenging. Far more frequently, the indirect ophthalmoscope utilizes higher magnification and allows for a more complete picture of a moving target.
